Windows 8.1 glitchy graphics

Hello friends near and far,
I am thrilled to have found this site! I can't believe machines is up and available for play, that's awesome.
I have downloaded the game, and it seems to "play" fine for an old game, but my problem is when I actually get out of the menu and an arena is loaded, the graphics are all messed up. It looks like several of the surfaces have been ripped up and strewn across my screen randomly. It's spotty, sometimes I can see everything clearly and but usually I can't really play the game because I can't even see the machines on the ground.
Has anyone encountered similar problems or know of a way to mend this issue? Much appreciated!!!
