Question regarding sounds (voicelines)
-
Hi! first off, I don't know if this question has been asked already but after I got the game working I noticed that I only had the music I missed all sounds in the game itsel, in the gamefiles they are present. Can someone help me with that? It just isn't the same if the units don't talk to you or basically not having any sound apart from music.

In general everyone has it the other way around. I'm not sure how you got the music to work, but we've always dealt with there being no music, but with the sounds working. I can't think of a fix, but here's a free thread-bump.

Hi! You could provide technical information regarding your computer. This might be of use in order to solve the problem. Sometimes, the installation process and the compatibility settings can cause this kind of issues.

Umm I'm going to assume that you're talking about the system specs? (I have never searched for them, but this is what I could find (sorry for probably shoddy translation, I'm German)) :
Classification 5,9 (windows power index)
Prozessor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
RAM: 8;00 GB
Systemtype: 64 Bit SystemWindows 7 Home Premium
ServicePack 1(Also, I had only downloaded the XP patch from this site and then the game worked because I had the game already completely installed from the CD's and none of the other downloads from this site (If that matters))

@DemonHunter
Perfect! That was to contextualize the problem. In my case, I didn't use any compatibility settings at all (I didn't use any of the options available in the properties --> compatibility window). Yet, you might need to actually use them. Another possibility is that you might need (in case you haven't) to run the program as an administrator. I hope this helps.
About the translation, it is perfectly written :) -

On windows 7 people generally had to install xp patch to the machines directory and put d3drm.dll there as well. (Doubt this will fix sound issues though)

ah yes, I should probably have mentioned that I already had the d3drm.dll already installed (from an earlier attempt 1/2 -2/3 year ago) and am running the game in compatibillity mode (windows xp servicepack 3) and im ruuning the program as admin as well.

@DemonHunter
Compatibility mode might be causing your problem. Have you tried running without it?
