Hi. I had basically the same experience. I had the demo which I played quite a lot which came on Turok 2 CD. I liked the machine designs, their voices and colorful graphics. It is one of the first games I installed myself and first RTS game I ever played. I downloaded the full version from the old forums in 2008, but I actually have not finished it until 2 years ago. It is a very hard game and I probably would not be able to finish it if I played when I was a kid.

There is not much activity here, but you can check out the discord community. I'm not a fan of it, but unfortunately forums are not popular these days.

I'm not sure what system you're running on but I've played quite a few multiplayer games without some of these steps. Note that I've always played on Windows 7 as I've found performance problems I haven't been able to get past on Windows8/10.

I've never needed to install IPX Wrapper as we just used the Direct IP option (can't remember the full title of the option at the moment); is there an advantage to using IPX rather than the Direct IP/LAN via Hamachi?

Also note, this game works over LAN if I recall correctly without any third party software.

It's hard to find someone with time for setting and playing Machines these days. Recently I've played a match with @BeVeRenT-. Try and ask him directly. There are quite a lot of mods in the Modding section http://wiredforwar.org/category/4/modding. There are mods with enhanced graphics http://wiredforwar.org/topic/110/texture4/10, increasing max unit size http://wiredforwar.org/topic/17/mods-machines-loader or some custom scenarios available on the forums http://forums.wiredforwar.org/index.php?board=4.0.
The AI intelligence is impossible to change, but you can try changing the settings in parmdata to make the AI build better, produce more units, change attack squads, improve machines speed/damage/accuracy etc. See here http://wiredforwar.org/topic/3/getting-started-with-modding-machines/2.

WOW!!! We were originally the bad guys! The Red Race was truly malfunctional after all:

"Years passed and one race of machines on the planet Eden 4 suffered severe damage due to electrical storms. Most of the controller’s memory was damaged but the controller continued to function. The damaged machines continued to build until they exhausted all of the resources on Eden 4. The planet surface is now littered with steel and the controller decides that to further colonize, it must seed another planet. The planet they reach already is home to another race of machines, and a fierce battle for the planet’s resources begins."

@pianist88 You might get better performance if you install dgVoodoo 2.

Some parts of the game may still run a bit slow at times - I think maps with day/night cycle might suffer from some weird performance issues on modern computers.

I know it's not much use but I can confirm this problem, just tested it myself... got same results.
